5 Day AIPS-IDMA Workshop on Patent
Fundamentals & Practice
Objectives
The workshop is designed for executives
whose scope of work calls for a broad working knowledge of
patents.
The participants will be provided a theoretical overview of
the topics being covered as well as some degree of
"hands-on" training via assignments etc. The effort
will be to make the sessions as interactive as possible.
The course examines important concepts related to patents like
requirements to patenting. What can and cannot be patented. It
explains the concepts of novelty, non-obviousness, utility,
anticipation, prior art, etc. It also examines the
requirements vis a vis the Indian Patent Act.
The sessions will cover the basics of patent documentation,
search tools and techniques, study of the search results and
preparation of the search report. Sessions include Patent
Prior-Art Search using web-based services and paid databases.
It is also most crucial to define invention properly while
drafting a patent application as in avoiding ambiguous or
excessive claims, which would be struck down. Hence drawing up
of Patent Specifications and Drafting of Claims shall be
covered.
The workshop also examines aspects pertaining to Claim
Interpretation and an analysis thereof. Judicial trends, both
in India and internationally,
in this area will also be examined.
Lastly, the workshop will be looking at
issues related to Patent commercialization and exploitation in
the context of IP / Patent Management in the corporate arena.
