5-Day Hands-on-Learning Workshop on Patent – Prior Art Search
Objectives
Patents offer one of the most significant options available while harvesting technical information needed to arrive at corporate decisions.
Patent documents are techno-legal documents containing a wealth of scientific information, but special skills are required to search these documents.
The workshop aims to train participants to initiate search proceedings in the most appropriate manner, retrieve relevant documents, and prepare search reports for study and analyses.
The sessions will cover the basics of patent documentation, search tools and techniques, study of the search results and preparation of the search report.
The Faculty shall be covering both the paid sites and the web-based free databases. Case studies and assignments will be used to promote hands-on learning, and the scope of the workshop will go beyond just pure search. Patent mining and mapping, use of search data as a tool in a SWOT Analysis for decision making, search strategy, searching towards new product identification etc. will also be addressed. This would give searchers a management perspective as well, and help them to appreciate the wider issues that would govern decisions they meet with, or influence, at the workplace.
